Advertising Campaign Planning

If you run one lousy ad, meaning, nobody responds, the world does not come to an end. But if you plan poorly, or not at all, you have cause to be concerned about your business coming to a halt.

Once you’ve determined where you should advertise, analysed your target audience, and picked the media you’ll use, the planning of what you’ll say and when you’ll say it is essential to your success. You’ve got to plan with your goals in mind as well as your budget, your competition, your plans for the future, and the realities of the moment.

Might your short or long-range planning include promotions with other companies? Smart marketers are always on the lookout for joint advertising opportunities, chances to tie in with other businesses so that the advertising gets more exposure but at a lower price, since the cost is shared with others.

If three local stores, all compatible, such as a drapery store, a carpet showroom, and a wallpaper shop, combine to run a full-page ad in a regional edition of a national magazine, they all gain the credibility of the ad, but the cost will be only 33 percent of what it normally would be. That’s one of the benefits of joint advertising, and that’s why you should consider the concept before planning your campaign. Just be sure that you never lose your own identity in partner ventures.

Plan your advertising campaign with an eye toward what you’ll do in case you are copied. If you come up with a dynamite plan and it is highly successful, you can count on being copied. So be certain that your name, your look, your logo, the whole works, are synonymous with your name and identity. You may be copied, but your consumers won’t confuse you with the others. Be certain that your plan takes into consideration five important variables:

1. Advertising

2. Promotions

3. Other marketing weapons like promotional products

4. Coordination

5. Timing

Think of these as a basketball team with five players. No matter how good it is, if it lost only one player and had to play with a four-player team, it would lose most of its games to complete teams that excel at teamwork. A good plan includes all the players and is the essence of teamwork. Alone, each of these players just can’t do the job. They need each other. Every smart marketing professional plays with his or her full team.

The smart marketer knows that an advertising campaign must have continuity to do the persuading job well. In advertising, intermittent communication is no communication at all. Your plan must have consistency built right into it. The idea is not to flirt with your public but to convince them. There is a huge difference between the two. Any true advertising expert will tell you that frequency and persistence are the secrets of success in marketing. A major commitment to one or a few of the media will work better in most cases than an across-the-board plan with a variety of media but a short insertion schedule.

You should plan your campaign so that you are consistent, but never boring, committed, but never predictable. You’ve got to build special promotions into your plan to keep your staff on their feet and your competitors off balance. The only part of the plan engraved in stone is your identity. Flexibility and an ability to make alterations in your advertising is crucial.

Promotional products like printed carrier bags, promotional balloons and promotional badges are a great marketing investment. They can be used to thank existing customers, generate curiousity in prospects and keep your brand top of mind.

Stop Working When You Feel Your Customer Is Disastrous

Are you working on a troublesome project? How do you feel? Feel regret for taking the project for your business?

Well, up to now you might think that I am silly. Operating a business would aim at earning money, so how come business owners would not want to make money and feel regret? Actually, if you think in this way it means that you have not been there in those troublesome situations before. If you have been there, you would know what business owners would feel regret.

Yes, these troublesome clients are saying the truth in some ways. There are really some companies which are willing to take these projects, but these companies are having large scale and they would have thousands of employees to work on the project so no matter how troublesome the client and the project are, they can still finish them well.

Secondly, if you find that the client is asking you to do something that you are not experienced, you should not risk for that. You might be good at marketing, or you might be good at designing, and you would not be a perfect business talent who could know everything. Therefore, if you are asked to do something that you think you are not experienced to, you should not work on that because you would need to spend a lot of time to finish the project and the quality might not match with the standard of the client.

Firstly, when you feel that you have to work non-stop for the projects in many days, you should not try to receive the project. Even though you have some helpers to work for you to finish the project, they would not want to work overnights all the time either. Therefore, you should always try to think from the perspective of your employees rather from your own if the project is one that you cannot handle all by yourself.

Secondly, if you discover that the request of the client is going against the model of your business, you need to reject your client. Sometimes, there may be clients asking you to do something that is opposite to the purpose of your business or aim of your business. Your employees know well about these business models, and if they see that you would change the model for money, they would be disappointed and if they know that you would change due to money this time, they know that you are likely to change again next time. Then, your business model would ruin.

The last tip to get rid of disastrous customer is here. When you realize that you need to work out of your expertise, you should never work. Your business might be famous for marketing but if your customer wishes you to handle marketing and design at the same time, you should think carefully. You should try to employ other companies to help you with the design work or you should reject the whole project.

To conclude, if you think that you are running a business with heart, and you would not make compromise easily, you should stand firm whenever there is projects or orders from the clients. If you think that they would not provide suitable feeling for you to work, you should never try to deal with them. It is because if you take those troublesome project, you might need to spend a lot of time and effort to deal with that and if you need employees to work for that, they would also feel tired and you would lose their support if they think that you are not considerate.

Palmer Returns In Bengals NFL Preseason Loss To Saints

Despite losing to the New Orleans Saints in their NFL preseason opener 17-7, the Cincinnati Bengals had a lot to be happy about. Most significantly, they were elated over the return of QB Carson Palmer after he’d missed most of the last NFL season. His solid performance gave them even more to be happy about despite being on the wrong end of the final score. When you live in Cincinnati, however, you’re used to having to take what you get so Palmer’s serviceable performance led to mass celebration in the streets of ‘The Queen City’.

New Orleans had their share of offensive highlights, with QB Drew Brees hooking up with tight end Jeremy Shockey for three completions including Shockeys first touchdown reception in a Saints uniform. Brees backup, Mark Brunell, also played well and tossed a 64 yard scoring strike to Robert Meacham.

Saints fans were well aware that their QB would produce after hanging over 5,000 yards on the board last year, but Palmers return brought a sigh of relief from Bengal backers. Palmer missed 12 games last season because of a partially torn ligament and tendon in his passing elbow.

After Shockeys TD catch boosted the Saints to a 7-0 lead, the Bengals tied the game when Palmers backup J.T. O’Sullivan hit Chris Henry on a 14 yard touchdown pass. OSullivan also produced solid numbers, completing 9 of 11 passes for 100 yards.

The Bengals will continue their NFL preseason this Thursday as they travel to Foxboro, Massachusetts for a game against the New England Patriots. The Saints will also play away from home, heading over to Houston for a game against the Texans on Saturday. Both teams begin NFL regular season play on Sunday, September 13th. The Bengals will host the Denver Broncos, while the Saints welcome the Detroit Lions to The Big Easy.

Cro Cop Takes On Choi At Fields Dynamite

The bizarre career path taken by Croatian striking machine Mirko Cro Cop will continue on New Years Eve in Tokyo as he faces 72 Korean kickboxer Hong-Man Choi in what should be the final addition to the K-1/DREAM combined show called Fields Dynamite!. The matchup adds even more striking firepower to a lineup that already includes K-1 mainstays Peter Aerts, Mighty Mo, and Semmy Schlit along with top DREAM fighters including Shinya Aoki, Joachim Hansen, Eddie Alverez and Gesias Calvacante.

For Cro Cop, its another stop on what has seemed like a meandering professional course full of much talk and little action since his departure from the UFC. In September 10, 2007, Cro Cop had just won PRIDE’s Open Weight Grand Prix in dominant fashion. Some were suggesting that he, and not Fedor Emelianenko, was the best heavyweight fighter in the world.

Cro Cops upset UFC loss to Gabriel Gonzaga changed that tune and his career his never really recovered. In what was supposed to be a “tune up” bout, Gonzaga smothered Cro Cop and roughed him up on the ground before unleashing his own version of Cro Cop’s.

Since the loss to Gonzaga it has been almost impossible to keep up with the various twists and turns in Cro Cops career. After another UFC loss, this by unanimous decision to Cheick Kongo where Cro Cop looked listless and gun shy, his management announced that he had suffered a broken rib in the first round and was having trouble breathing. Furthermore, Cro Cop suffered from a deviated septum that made breathing difficult.

Its been an eventful year for Hong Man Choi as well. 2008 began with a loss to Fedor Emelianeko on the Yarrenoka New Years Eve event, in which the Russian fighting god briefly struggled with Chois 72 330 pound frame before submitting him. In April, he joined the Korean army for his compulsory military service only to be relived from his duties after medical tests discovered a brain tumor. The tumor was removed in June, and Choi was back in the ring in late September. He lost to then K-1 heavyweight champ Badr Hari in his comeback fight, and lost again to Ray Sefo in a reserve match at the recently completed World Cup GP. The losses prompted K-1 president Sadaharu Tanikawa to curiously announce that Choi had been laid off from the kickboxing promotion due to perceived erosion in his skills.

Tanikawas comments notwithstanding (and with the realization that they may be as much storyline as anything else) Choi is really the same as hes always been. Hes a physical mismatch for any opponent and while his striking style is awkward at best, it has proven to be reasonably effective. His reach is insane, and his size allows him to get a ridiculous among of leverage from his knee strikes. Not sure why Tanikawa is just now realizing that Choi isnt Ernesto Hoost, but hes a surprisingly skilled fighter who uses his unique physical attributes to their best advantage.

This fight isn’t about competition as much as it is about commerce. Cro Cop remains one of the most popular foreign fighters in Japan, and with the proven success of freak show matchups this may have been the most attractive opponent for him from the promotions standpoint. Its a fight that Cro Cop should win, and in Japan at least a victory over Choi would have at least some significance. At the same time, Choi’s size combined with Cro Cops recent reticence to throw punches and kicks makes it a potentially dangerous matchup for the Croatian striking machine.

Dolphins Top Jags In Florida NFL Preseason Rivalry Game

In a NFL preseason game characterized by rainy weather, sloppy field conditions and a quick exit for both teams starters, the Miami Dolphins outlasted their in-state rivals the Jacksonville Jaguars by a 12-9 score. Only one touchdown was scored in the game, which was a battle of field goal kickers until the third quarter.

Miami’s Ernest Wilford recently converted to tight end from wide receiver, and gave the football an emphatic spike after his game winning touchdown reception:

“There’s a sense of urgency for me. I want to play well this year. It’s a good start. That was a lot of frustration right there. I didn’t play that much last year, so I had to let it out.”

Dolphins QB Henne, who is being groomed as the heir apparent to starter Chad Pennington, was happy with his performance in his first action of the preseason:

“Overall I thought I played pretty well. I got some points on the board and had us moving.”

Jacksonville QB David Garrard gave a fairly standard assessment of his teams opening game performance:

“We have to get better at some of the protection issues. I have to make sure I get everybody lined up in the right spots.”

Jaguars wide receiver Tory Holt, acquired as a free agent in the off season, was happy with his only reception of the game:

“I had been anticipating this day for a long time. I enjoyed it and it was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to many more.”

Despite ending up on the wrong side of a losing score, Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio was generally upbeat about his teams effort:

“We are going to be physical up front. I liked what we did up front.”

Not surprisingly given the tempo of the game, the most heated battle for a starting spot was between the Dolphins placekickers. Both incumbent Dan Carpenter and challenger Connor Barth were perfect on their kicking attempts.

Jacksonville will host their other NFL rival from the state of Florida on Saturday as they welcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to town. Miami will remain at home as they take on the Carolina Panthers.

Iron Chef: Japan’s Culinary Sensation Takes America By Storm

‘Iron Chef’ is a crazy Japanese import cooking game show that features accomplished chefs from around the world going head to head in a competition format that’s part Julia Child, part pro wrestling. Even non-foodies are drawn to the show for its sheer entertainment value.

The story behind the show goes something like this–there’s this rich dude, MC Kaga who summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Needless to say, a TV studio wouldn’t suffice for such a production: the kitchen stadium is in Kaga’s castle. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese). The summoned culinary challenger picks which Iron Chef he wants to take a crack at and the contest begins. The show was originally created by the Fuji TV network in the Japan, and the original Japanese title translates literally to The Iron Men of Cooking.

The chefs just don’t pull out the best dishes from their repertoire–that would be too predictable. There’s a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

The chefs then have an hour to prepare a seven-course meal to be served to a panel of what I presume to be mid-level Japanese celebrities. They rate and discuss each participants offering and pick a winner. At the end of the show with much fan fare Kaga reveals the winner. Its a great honor to beat one of the Iron Chefs, though its no easy feat.

What really brings the show together is the announcin–”though I’m sure it loses something having been dubbed from Japanese. There’s a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange juxtaposition between cooking shows and wrestling even more complete.

The dishes that are presented are always amazing and creative. Sometimes they might not be the most appetizing creations, but that’s to be expected when you have to make a desert with something like pickled carp as a theme ingredient. The creative process and the competition is what makes the show a must watch.

The Food Network has recently begun production of a native grown version called ‘Iron Chef America’. It has a similar format, but really loses a lot from the inscrutable original.

How To Reduce The Amount Of Wasted Time On Your Computer

What if I told you that there was one secret little thing that you could do that would reduce the amount of wasted time on your computer? Well there is. The only problem is that is very obvious – so obvious that its almost always over looked. Well, there really is more than just one thing you can do. Its to first learn some of the more commonly used shortcuts that are found on windows and to also learn how to type faster. Sounds really obvious huh? Well guess what, I have spent a lot of time working with lots of different people that are in all sorts of different industries and typing really slow and not knowing even just a few of the commonly used shortcuts that are used in windows tends to be one of the biggest wastes of time.

If you are typing a lot (and even if you don’t type a lot) then it’s is in your best interest to learn how to how to type properly and to stop using the hunt and peck method. Now I’m not going to teach you how to type properly because it just isn’t possible to write about that in this short article, but what I am going to tell you is that if you are using the hunt and peck method (hunt and peck is when you use your pointer finger from both hands to pick on one letter on the keyboard at a time) then you should really consider taking the time to learn how to type properly. It will take a long time for you to learn it but the rewards are well worth the wait. Think of it like this – you are investing some of your time right now to save a lot of time in the future.

Now when it comes to using the windows keyboard shortcuts you are going to have to practice them in order to remember them so that you will be able to use them without thinking. Now keep in mind that most of the shortcuts that I am going to show you are just for the Windows environment and some can be used on most windows programs (like Office, Excel etc…). If there are some programs that you use frequently I suggest that you take the time to learn a few of the shortcuts that it has to offer – you spend a lot of time using the programs anyways, why no reduce the amount of time you spend looking for things on it?

To start, if you switch from one application to another on the task bar (the task bar is that bar at the bottom of you screen that has shows which programs you have open) by clicking on them with the mouse, you are wasting your time. Try this: open a few programs like Notepad or the Calculator and hold down the Alt button and then press the Tab key a few times to cycle through your open programs. It’s a much quicker way to move from one program to the next without using your mouse. Now if you want to get to the task manger by using only on hand press Ctrl + Shift + Esc all on the left hand side of the keyboard. To close a program quickly use Alt + F4. To save a program use Ctrl + S. To go straight to your desktop use the combination: windows button + M.

For the best perfomance I personally suggest that you practice these shortcuts as much as you possibly can as they will be able to increase your speed of using your computer. Trust me, it may seem like a lot of work, but in the end it will be well worth it.

Customer Is Always Right, A Myth Or Reality?

If you are a marketing personnel, this piece of writing is surely going to make you familiar with the other side of the most widely known concept in the customer services field; “Customer is always right.”

One of the basic things you must know is to distinguish the really valuable customers from those who appear to be but are not. There are two types of customers we come across in daily operations; those who bring normal sales but are easy to deal with and are less demanding and the other type giving a large sales volume and have equally high level of demands. It is your task, therefore, to direct the right amount of efforts on the right type of customer.

As a result of fierce competition and globalization, customers are exercising more and more rights and the companies have to expand the circle of customer care services offered in order to stay competitive in the marketplace. These efforts always involve costs which are directed towards following the fact that retaining an old customer needs lesser resources as compared to capturing a new one.

Read the above passage again and assess which of the two customers is really valuable? If you answer in Mr. A, you have the basis what is being described in the later part of the article.

First of all you need to make clear the fact, to you and all the stakeholders in the process, that it is not at all needed that every customer who makes heavy purchases is going to be beneficial for the company. As an example, you can do some screening exercises to separate some of the over demanding customers and those who do not ask for so much attention and resources to be allocated to them.

As a second step, go and dig out answers of question about brand loyalty, purchase record, word of mouth and the general and overall attitude and behaviour of the two categories of the customers. This will give you an insight into how things integrate and play their role in making the large picture. You will always find customers with less purchase volume to have a good record on all these parameters. If you have enough resources, it will be good to for some kind of survey from those who come to you.

If you want to focus on the qualitative as well as quantitative aspect of the customer service you are providing to your customers, you should try to focus on the customers who exhibit an attitude same as that of Mr. A. Such customers are not only easy to deal with but also are more brand loyal and are a constant source of revenue as compared to the big players.

Following these three steps will result in an increased level of customer service and a decreased cost. To start with, you have to analyse and interpret the facts in a different but objective way to get most out of your customer relationship management program.
