A gadget isn’t going to do all the work for you. But it sure can make life easier and even help motivate you a little more.
They can even help prevent a serious injury, but you need to know which ones are worthwhile.
So here are some fitness accessories you should probably buy:
1. A high quality belt: Not only will a belt help you stabilize during heavy lifts, but it will also protect the discs in your lower back from potential injury. And keep in mind that once your discs go out you can never get them back to one hundred percent.
2. Power lifting shoes: Specialized shoes can make you very stable and in some cases, increase your lifts by a lot. You see, they are made to transfer more of your force to the weight being lifted. Normal fitness shoes, on the other hand, can be very unstable and increase the risk of injury.
3. An mp3 player: Not only are mp3 players super cheap these days, but they can hold a huge amount of songs. Please do not rely on your gym to play the music you like best. After all, research has shown that listening to your own music while exercising increases performance.
4. A water bottle: Although simple, carrying your own water bottle can enhance your hydration. Not only will you save time because you won’t have to walk to the nearest water fountain, but you are also more likely to drink when you are thirsty.
5. Wrist straps: Just make sure they aren’t cotton. You want to get neoprene straps so that they don’t dig into your skin. The good thing about straps is that they allow you to move heavier weights without your forearms becoming rate limiting factors.
6. Chalk: Now you will only need this once you start getting stronger. But the main issue here is that many gyms don’t clean their weights with a high enough frequency. This in turn leaves excess body oils on the handles and can make the weights very slippery.
Although the above accessories will not get you in shape, they sure can help. And in some cases they can prevent serious injury!
